The Federal Trade Commission is pursuing a number of new initiatives that could impact your business, including law enforcement actions and proposals to amend the FDCPA in several important areas. Recently, the FTC held a series of roundtable meetings to discuss its concerns relating to debt collection arbitration and litigation. Hear from the FTC official with responsibility for leading the agency's work in this area about what the FTC has been doing and where it may be heading.

Description: Matthew Lavery will be discussing how the SCRA impacts credit card collections from military members for pre-military debt. This discussion will help spot issues that could result in unnecessary litigation. Topics presented will include: the purpose of the SCRA, who the SCRA applies to, when it applies and the relief afforded. Time permitting Mr. Lavery will present a brief discussion of several contradicting federal district court cases that have ruled on the issue of whether the SCRA allows for a private cause of action. The presentation should provide the audience with sufficient information to spot legal issues in dealing with credit card collection from military members.
